Whether you are a first-time buyer, a growing family, or a seasoned investor, Cambridge is one of the most desirable cities in the UK to make one's home. However, with so many neighbourhoods to choose from, where do you actually start? Using specific criteria: proximity to the city centre, the community, house styles, and transport links. Let us take a look at three of the best places to buy in Cambridge.

The west side of central Cambridge is an area steeped in history, with beautiful period architecture and very little in the way of new development, which is a big part of its charm. The streets are characterised by well-maintained, handsome homes that feel timeless rather than trendy. It is by far the best side of Cambridge in terms of appearance, and that reputation is well earned.
The community here is a real mix, successful professionals sit alongside families who have lived in the area for generations. Whilst there is a turnover of properties for sale, it is not massive, and when they do come up, they are very expensive.
What makes Newnham consistently desirable for both buyers and tenants is the proximity to the city centre, the closeness to the university, good links to the motorways, and a number of wonderful green open spaces nearby. There are a handful of local amenities too: a butcher's, a coffee shop, a bakery, and a Co-op for everyday essentials. For a bigger supermarket shop, you will need to venture a little further out.

If Newnham is Cambridge's refined, leafy side, then Mill Road is its beating heart. This is a neighbourhood that is quietly becoming one of the most exciting places to live in the city; diverse, independent, and full of energy.
It feels as though at some point someone decided to quietly transform Mill Road into something special, and it worked. The street is lined with independent retailers, continental and international supermarkets, wine bars, bike shops, and a whole array of cuisines from around the world. It has a genuinely continental vibe that you do not often find outside of London.
On the evenings and weekends especially, the street comes alive. It is the kind of place where you will always find somewhere new to explore, and that energy makes it a particularly attractive option for younger buyers and those who want to be at the centre of things.
The housing stock is largely Victorian and Edwardian, with beautiful period features and imposing front doors. Parking is limited, that is the trade-off, but for many buyers, the properties more than compensate. There are also smaller apartments from around 30 square metres, which can provide an accessible first step onto the property ladder.
From an investment perspective, Mill Road is a strong bet. Demand is consistently high, and properties in and around the city centre tend to retain and grow their value reliably over time.

Fulbourn is close enough to the city but still far enough away to feel as though you are part of a community.
This is a village with genuine infrastructure. Along its High Street, which, incidentally, is reputed to be one of the shortest in the UK at barely 100 metres, you will find everything you could need day-to-day. To mention a few, there is a pharmacy, a Co-op, a hairdresser's, a greengrocer, a café and Beaumonts Butchers, that has been a village institution for decades. This is also where you can find our office headquarters, where you can pop in for a free coffee, notably the best coffee you can get from any estate agent in Cambridge - so we have been told!
The schools are a major draw, with three popular schools within the village, Fulbourn Primary School, Landmark International School, and Waldorf Cambridge School, with a nearby secondary school, Bottisham Village College. People have moved to Fulbourn specifically for the schools.
For those working in the sciences or tech sector, the location is particularly convenient; Granta Park, Babraham research Campus, Papworth Hospital, ARM, and AstraZeneca are all close by. You also get a little bit more for your money, with more garden space and parking not being such an issue.
In terms of property, Fulbourn offers real variety and relatively good value compared to central Cambridge. There is a range of homes including properties well-built after the Second World War, with generous gardens, established and individual detached family homes and Victorian residences, sit alongside period Grade II listed thatched cottages. Prices range from around £350,000 for a two-bedroom home up to £1.5 million for larger, more characterful properties. Streets like Apthorpe Street, Cow Lane and Pierce Lane, are among the most sought-after.
Perhaps the most charming thing about Fulbourn, though, is harder to quantify. It is a place where people know each other, genuinely, without it feeling intrusive or claustrophobic. It is the kind of village people move away from and then find themselves drawn back to. Once you are in, you tend to stay.
Cambridge is a city where every neighbourhood tells a different story. Newnham offers timeless elegance and prestige. Romsey delivers vibrancy and urban energy. And Fulbourn provides that rare blend of village charm and modern convenience.
Whichever area resonates with you, one thing is consistent across all three: demand is strong, quality of life is high, and property values tend to hold up well over time. If you are thinking of making a move to Cambridge, any one of these neighbourhoods would be an excellent place to start.

Kim DunnAbsolutely fantastic. We sold our house and bought a house with Tony and Maria, and we can’t recommend them enough. They were so friendly. Helpful and patient, very clear communication and supportive throughout. We recommend them to everyone! We needed to move quickly and our house was up for sale the same day they came to take photos, and we had offers 48 hours later. Maria was very professional and we really felt the personal care they put into every transaction.
Mihai AlexandruWe bought our first house with Tony, best experience from all the agents that showed us a house. Not pushing us to rush the decision, answered any questions, always available and above all very friendly. A real family-owned business that makes it feel easy and comfortable. A fresh breath of air in a polluted market of estate agents. I can't recommend them enough above all others. We will definitely sell the house and buy a new one with them when the time comes, a great experience. Cheers Tony and thanks for all the help and support.
Sally SunkersingWe would highly recommend Antony Davis Estate Agents. We appreciated Tony’s excellent communication, professionalism and personal approach. We had already found a house we wanted to buy and Tony was able to get our house on the market and secure a good buyer in less than a week. He kept us so well informed all the way through the sale process and was very kind and reassuring.
